Stork
|
Stork is the finest Egyptian cotton yarn in sport weight that has ever existed. Cultivated mainly in the Nile River Valley in Egypt, this grade of cotton produces the longest and strongest fiber, and is considered the best cotton in the world. Stork is suitable for hand- and machine knitting, crochet, and other needlework. All-year-round knitwear and accessories, in all possible styles and forms, from lingerie to long-sleeved sweaters, are suitable.
Did you know? Highly prized Egyptian cotton is produced from a hybrid plant, which did not originate in Egypt, and actually came from South America and has Peruvian genes.
For information: We think of cotton as white, but that was largely a commercial decision that came about after Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin in 1793. White cotton - actually a pale grey in the pod - could more easily be manipulated for consistency during the bleaching process.
